In March 2012, we launched the Wikibouffe website, which is essentially a culinary guide offering recipes and general information on food. The concept is similar to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia. Users can contribute by adding or modifying recipes and information about food.
We developed the website using an open source platform called ExpressionEngine. We adapted the platform so that Wikibouffe meets clients’ needs and expectations.
The search engine also presented many large challenges. While faceted search is now very common, Wikibouffe offers more complex choices: it allows users to choose several elements from one category instead of filtering the results. The search engine also offers a social element that gives a dynamic rating to each user based on content that is recommended or added from a social network.
